ACCESS TO ENERGY

How can we ensure solar equipment recyclability in rural areas?

Among the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve by 2030, two main goals are directly linked to this challenge:
  • SDG7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
  • SDG12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

In compliance with the COP21 objective signed in 2015 in Paris, limiting global warming below 2°C requires that this electrification is based on low carbon generation. In this context, renewable energies and recyclability have a decisive role to play. Many solutions already exist to bring electricity with solar energy in the most remote places. All of them use same key components such as solar panels, storage solutions, power electronics solution, low voltage equipment, protection, cables, etc.

However, as the lifespan of such equipment mainly depends on very sensitive components such as battery and solar panels, it has become urgent to think about second life and recyclability value chains to limit carbon emissions, reduce electronics waste, and decrease the use of rare metals, while simultaneously maintaining or complementing a viable business model. To cope with these challenges, we need to innovate the recyclability stream of used components including packaging.

These ideas raise several questions:
  • Which ecosystem do we have to implement to build such value chain?
  • How to valorize the second life of used component?
  • What will be the business, social and environmental impact?
  • How to measure and evaluate it?

HOMES OF THE FUTURE

Schneider is transforming smart homes to sustainable homes of the future. Wiser, our IoT-enabled family of products, goes beyond smart gadgets by integrating energy management with home automation, enabling our customers to design and create homes that are more sustainable, resilient, efficient and personalized.

But we dare you to disrupt!

How can we go one step further in the new electric world, with new energy sources like solar and new loads like EV that are increasing?
How can Wiser provide new value and superior experience to residents, home builders and property management companies?
How will you enable this with modern digital technologies, software and services?

PLANTS OF THE FUTURE

What will the Plants of the Future look like in the near future? It’s a question that has no simple answer as the Fourth Industrial Revolution continues apace and new technologies transform the manufacturing landscape.

As with any revolution, we are in an era of rapid change, as a wave of innovation washes away old systems, business models and whole industries to create new opportunities and ways to operate. While most organizations understand the need to embrace new technologies, breaking through the early stages of adoption often presents a serious challenge.

Digital Transformation is not just about change systems and technologies, it’s a long-term journey which will need people mindset change creating a more collaborative and sustainable environment not only inside the industries but across the entire supply chain.

With automation expert services and great partners network allied to state of art technology on automation hardware and software portfolio, Schneider Electric can be the perfect strategic partner to help industrial customers and machine manufactories on this journey. EcoStruxure Plant and Machine can make industrial facilities and machines operate with more connectivity, intelligence, flexibility and sustainability, increasing dramatically the production efficiency, energy efficiency and assets lifecycles.

How can we produce more using less resources such as energy and water? How can we better plan the asset maintenance to keep its lifecycle longer? Is it possible to use technology to retain the important knowledge from the workforce who will be retired soon? How can automation and technology help the factory collaborators to work more safely? How can we transform industrial raw data in business insights?

Join us on this exciting challenge and let’s make the plants of the future smarter and greener!

GRIDS OF THE FUTURE

Global electricity consumption is growing significantly and solar will likely become the number one energy resource. These foreseeable changes have electric utilities seeking answers to difficult questions.

How shall the grid, at the center of the new energy landscape, be modernized to address these changes? How can aggressive sustainability goals and more locally generated energy be served by a legacy infrastructure? How can improvements address the increasing risks from major weather events and cybersecurity threats?

Schneider Electric provides enterprise software solutions across the entire Lifecycle of the Grid. With advanced technology and a strong vision for the future, we help utilities digitize, optimize, and automate grid processes for a sustainable future.

There’s much to be done, and we’re excited to hear from you!

DE[CODING] THE FUTURE

With ever more energy being generated from renewables and hydrogen, and remote maintenance and operations becoming a necessity in the wake of Covid-19, how will the industries of the future approach the design, engineering and construction of critical assets and infrastructure?

AVEVA and Schneider Electric provide cutting edge tools that help teams design and build many of the worlds’ most innovative chemicals, energy, power, manufacturing, mining and shipyard operations. But what if these industries were remotely operated and maintained by machines, with humans providing insight, support and decision-making, informed by artificial intelligence? What solutions and innovations would companies need to function effectively, and how can AVEVA help?

Existing energy assets will need to continue to produce energy through the transition to renewables and hydrogen sources – how can we help the existing infrastructure to be more sustainable and reduce emissions yet still create profits?
